Food ties us together.

Asian and Pacific Islander culture consists of many languages, traditions, and religions. Some may consider this barriers in unification. However, food has been seen as the opposite. There are many commonalities is our dishes that make celebrating food together a little more easy. In addition, the American experience has pushed us to take more pride in our food due to the Chinese Exclusion Act which attempted to stop all Chinese immigration to the US for ten years with a few exceptions including restaurant owners and their employees. This loophole caused in increase in Chinese restaurants and many cultures followed.
